Real estate fraud
We help protect against the most common types of real estate fraud that impact homeowners
Identity theft
By stealing your identity, fraudsters can sell your home or take out financing on it without your knowledge or consent
Manipulation
Bad actors may prey on your vulnerabilities such as age-related decline to pressure you to transfer or finance your property
Power of Attorney abuse
A fraudster may create a fake POA or your legitimately appointed attorney may abuse their position
Real estate fraud in the news
How we help
Deter real estate fraud
Make your property an unattractive target for potential fraudsters as they are less likely to be successful
Enable early intervention
Advance notice of a sale or financing and closing controls give you the opportunity to block a fraudulent transaction
Minimize hassles
Title insurance may cover your losses, but it is a long and stressful process - avoid this entirely through prevention
We are the only service focused on preventing real estate fraud
Even following all the existing guidance on how to protect yourself leaves you exposed. While title insurance can restore your title or cover financial losses, it is a long and stressful process to do so. The Lighthouse Registry Property Alert Service is the only service that can actually help prevent real estate fraud before it happens.
How it works
Register and forget about it - we do the work to keep you notified of any potential transactions related to your property
Sign up with
Lighthouse Registry
Set up a virtual meeting with one of our experts to review the service in detail and prepare your paperwork. There is a one time registration fee.
Be notified if your property is to be transferred or financed
We notify you and your "trusted contacts"of any proposed transactions related to your property and put in place controls around any closings. There is an annual monitoring fee for this service.
Intervene only when you
need to
You can take steps to block the proposed transaction if it is fraudulent or otherwise unauthorized. If it is legitimate, nothing needs to be done.
* The Property Alert Service is not insurance. It is a compliment to title insurance but does not replace title insurance. Homeowners should consult a lawyer to discuss their insurance coverage and determine what insurance products may be suitable for them to ensure that they are covered in the event of real estate fraud.
